Update 4th Feb

Post by VK3KYY » Tue Feb 04, 2020 6:03 am

I've uploaded a new 'Latest' version to GitHub https://github.com/rogerclarkmelbourne/ ... latest.sgl

This version has mainly has changes associated with improving the DMR ID / Callsign lookup, so that the processor does not waste a lot of its precious processing power looking up the callsign or the TG name. This has been achieved my multiple levels of caching.
Most of this work has been done by Daniel.

Additionally. Daniel has added a new option for the Scan function, so that as well as Hold and Pause the scan can also be set to complete Stop as soon as a signal is encountered.

I have also added 2 new power settings . 50mW and "5W++".
The 5W++ setting applies maximum PA drive, and should be used with caution, and at your own risk.
On UHF my radios seem to output around 5.7W with maximum PA drive, and on VHF (2m) the radio outputs around 7.8W

I've also modified the way the firmware calculates the PA drive value (number) required for the power levels below 1W, and uses a percentage / fraction of the PA drive value for 1W, rather than using a negative offset from the 1W drive value.
This appears to make the power output value a bit more reliable across multiple radios.
I've also slightly tweaked the drive settings for the 2W, 3W and 4W settings, to try to make these values more accurate.

Please note. That the power output on your radio will only be remotely close to the power displayed on the screen if you calibrate the power settings by using the Calibration screen in the CPS to set the Low (1W) and High (5W) values. And this needs to be done for multiple frequency ranges.

This is my calibration or the entire UHF range, which I setup by disabling the band limits and using a dummy load.

As you can see. There is less drive needed on 400Mhz than is required on 475Mhz, which is not much of a surprise.
However, there is more drive needed for the middle of the range e.g. at 450Mhz than there is at 475Mhz, but not a huge difference.

There are another couple of enhancements in the pipeline, from other people, but both seem to have problems at the moment so could not be included in this release.

PS.

This version has been tested by a few people for a couple of days, and seems to be stable.

I've uploaded a new 'Latest' version to GitHub
...
Roger, just one question, does this update includes changes made by Daniel to hotspot operation (bug fixes mainly)?

No.

I don't think it includes Daniels changes to Hotspot mode, unless they were hidden in some other changes by mistake

No problem. Daniel just replied that he wants some more stuff changed and tested before including it.

Thanks Roger.

OK.

I noticed that response after I had already posted my reply.
