Re: Baofeng 1801 not enter in upload mode
I have also requested a refund and the documented features of the radio are absent.
It is sad that Baofeng have created a substantially different radio and given it the same name as on existing unit, and also lost the ham radio market in doing so.
I am in the market for a 'working' 1801 if anyone wants to DM me.
Could the board admin add a sticky post to let people know the 1801 is end of life and the units now being sold are imposters?

Re: Baofeng 1801 not enter in upload mode
i have firmware - that supplyer send it to me - for the "new" model, i can upload it... do you think, this radio won't be able to have installed opengd77 ?
Re: Baofeng 1801 not enter in upload mode
Already answered by Colin, no USB on that MCU -> different MCU -> won't work (and I don't even talk about firmware loader/etc).
Re: Baofeng 1801 not enter in upload mode
I did receive full refund. Hopefully ohters too. Maybe it directs Baofeng not to do changes to radio/firmware/connections/ everything but not manual. And market this as product before...
It just was too good money milking machine
Dm1801 story is over.. i will add photos from this radio later in some cloud service for anyone who has intrest...

Re: Baofeng 1801 not enter in upload mode
Owww, what bad news about the Baofeng DM-1801.
Now I'm going to keep my old DM-1801 forever. I don't sell, I don't lend, I don't give!
Hehehehehe

Re: Baofeng 1801 not enter in upload mode
Unfortunately today I got a DM-1801 that is not entering download mode. Fortunately I got it for a reasonable price so I'm keeping it.
However there is something that is not like others... I can't talk to it using a USB to Serial Cable. I don't have right now the "slim one", the "direct one", but I will get one eventually.
I will also probably open it in order to take high res picture of it... But not right now as I 'm recovering from an eye surgery.

Re: Baofeng 1801 not enter in upload mode
Can you share it? I got mine from a local guy at a reasonable price (maybe he was selling it after discovering that it can't be upgraded), so I don't have any vendor to contact for firmware or software.

Re: Baofeng 1801 not enter in upload mode
Can someone confirm whether these new DM1801 radios are DMR ?
Someone posted that they are FM only.
Also, can you confirm whether the USB cable contains a chip in the plug / dongle end ?
You can check this by using a continuity tester to see which pins in the USB plug connect to which of the pads on the 2.5 and 3.5mm jack plugs
All modern CPU (MCU) chips, (in the last 10 years), have USB support and use direct USB connection from the PC to the radio.
If Baofeng had re-engineered this radio, they would have probably replaced the CPU and C6000 DMR Chip, with the C7000 DMR chip which also contains a CPU.
However the C7000 has built in USB support and does not use a chip in the cable.
If these radios have a firmware update mode, and you connect them to a PC, the Windows Device Manager, will show the type of device that is connected to the PC.
Unfortunately I can't remember what USB device is detected when a C7000 chip is in the radio.
The other thing you could do, is open the radio and look at what chips are inside, but I doubt anyone is willing to do this.

Hi,
Also, it would be interesting to have some information printed on the sticker under the battery, at least to try to identify these "new" versions, in order to avoid some disappointments.
Cheers.
