Greetings from Lookout Mountain Alabama

AA4HA (Tisha) here, YL extra class. Electrical engineer who works as a senior engineer for a radio manufacturer (based in New Zealand but I work in North America).

Father (SK) was a ham back in the '70's to the 90's and I soldered and assembled all of his Heathkit gear for him (he was disabled). Went off to university for an MSEE. Professionally work in the VHF/UHF spectrum on systems design, path analysis, network balancing where there are hundreds to thousands of digital radios.

Restore classic boat-anchor radios (Collins, Hammarlund/EAC, Harris). HF station is primarily made of higher end commercial/ mil-spec. Have 40 acres of forested mountaintop for antennas. Someday may put up a DMR repeater as there is a 'gap' in coverage to the north of me.

Decided to try out TYT UV-390+ portables for GMRS (licensed) and amateur radio (mostly UHF DMR).
