Depends how old it is.
Using the latest CPS or Python script is mandatory,

I already updated RT3S and now working on TYT MD-UV390 Plus 10W. It also already run OpenGD77 on this radio. I only needed tu update the new FW via OpneGD77 CPS. No need to use the donor file etc.

If the donor file location has already been specified, you can go straight flashing the firmware.

Ok, so the steps are the same as installing the firmware for the first time.

Just upload the firmware to the radio, you don't need to do anything else. e.g. no backups .

Just download the firmware .zip file, go to the firmware loader in the CPS, select the language , put the radio into DFU mode, select the zip file and it will be installed into the radio

If you didn't update the firmware for a long time, the settings may be cleared because the format of the settings may have changed.

Is there something missing from the User Guide?

When each Beta is released, the changes are listed in that post

If you mean changes between the last and current stable version, then no. Stable versions are only released every 6 to 12 months, and the list would be extremely long and no one has the time to collate all the individial beta change lists and make them into one huge list

Beta with bug fixes and enhancements are often released every 2 or 3 weeks.
