Can't get Open GD77 in DMR to work

Post by DA6VK » Wed May 28, 2025 11:19 pm

Hello to all,

I installed Open GD77 on by Baofeng DM1701but I cant get get DMR to work. No receiving and no transmitting. I went by the Manual, watched several YT Videos and even tried to different CP wich i downloaded. The Repeaters are in reach, most of them work also on 70cm or 2m FM. FM works with noch issues. I tried the different Parrots, called on the lokal Repeaters etc. but no reaction. I put it on scan "All Channels",and i found a Repeater where once and a while the green LED flashes. But no tone, even if i turn the Squelch off. I am pretty sure that i have something overlooked or wrong programmed, but according to the Manual it looks ok.

I have a Radioddity DB-25 D wich i wrote the CP for a few weeks before and it works. Not the way i would like to, but better than nothing :P But on the other side , that whole DMR-Thing is complete new to me.

Maybe someone as a tip, checklist, a "How to", or whatever it takes to get that radio to work.

Thank you. 73 DA6VK

Compare your DMR settings with the radio which works e.g.

There is also a possibility that the frequency calibrarion in your DM1701 is wrong

Also, check your Tx power (on FM)

Thank you for your Reply

Compare your DMR settings with the radio which works e.g. > did that a couple Times even if the CP are different the settings seem to be the same. Also checked on repeaterbook for the Relais. Frequency, CC etc. are the same. I even created a new Zone where i copyed all Kontakts in, still nothing. I tried my other Radio to call the local parrot. Than i could her me talking, and Display showed my Name and DMR ID. The answer from the Parrot i did not receive on the DM-1701

There is also a possibility that the frequency calibrarion in your DM1701 is wrong >> i looked that up in the Manual. put the channel on 430 and 440MHZ, power on 5W. But i am not sure what i do with the value 184?

Also, check your Tx power (on FM) Power is on max. for now on all contacts. I can open Repeaters up to 35-40km away on FM. FM the Radio works fine.

To me it looks like the radio is not transmitting/receiving on DMR

CPS software is the version R2025.03.23.01, ( +DMR), and the installed FW on the Radio is 20240908143110 (9947546 D) CPU: TYT But this was the only FW i was able to install anyway.

The settings like DMR Filter, TS Filter, CC Scan.. i tried with different settings. I even reinstalled the Firmware.

Right now i dont have any idea what else to look for :?

Your firmware is too old. Please download and install the latest firmware. Old firmware and new CPS don’t mix.

Changed the FW, that bought me 2 Steps forward :D Thank you!
Now i have a new issue: I added a couple Repeaters, and after i transfered the Codeplug i get on every DMR Cannel "Timeout" Filters are Off
And i cant get my Parrots to work. On my other Radio they all work, so the issue is with the DM-1701 :x

what happens if you transmit in 4W or less? works fine in less watts?

if yes, then maybe you are affected by this bug: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4976

otherwise maybe is related with the frequency deviation and it can be easily calibrated with a SDR, like this...

Its the same regardless what powersetting i use. and i found out it won't do this on all channels. I had redone the Zones, Contacts etc. and also set up the Radio. The settings arr more or less the same on all channels.
BTW: I tuned an external Antenna yesterday, and i got on a Power output between 7.1 and 7.4 Watts :)

If DMR is not working at all, you may have NOT used the DONOR FILE properly during FW Loading...

Are you sure you have exactly followed the OpenGD77 FW installation directions on its manual??

Latest CPS,
Latest OpenGD77 FW ZIP file for you radio model,
Donor file ..

Let us know.

Hello,
i have changed the FW wich had the greatest sucsess. I got it working now on some Channels. Whats kind of strange is that i get two relais , one 70km and the other 50km away. The relais about 2 km away is only showing "Timeout" And i can't get any parrots to work. High Power, low Power doesent make a difference.
My CP Settings for the Contacts and Zones are the same as on my other Radio, and also compared the Settings from various CP i found in different forums. Is it possible that there is so less traffic on DMR? I would like to get my Local TGs like TG26253, TG26255,TG2625... On TG2625 i was able to listen to a QSO earlier this week, but it seems they could not receive me.
I keep trying... ;)
