Just ordered a new TYT UV-390 Plus. What files will I need to install the OpenGD77 firmware? I see comments about using firmware for UV380, using donor firmware etc. What is the process? Thanks in advance.
The first post in this thread gives the process in great detail - is there something in there that you have a specific question about?

Be aware that some UV-390 Plus 10W units may have a screen brightness issue, but my understanding is that this is only on some units - the standard UV390 and UV390 Plus are fine.

I own a MD-UV390 with GPS. Standard 5W out, NOT a 390+ model.

I took a good look at the upgrade instructions at the top of this topic. I downloaded the recommended files. I notice that the firmware varieties in the firmware package seem to include GPS-specific variants. And that they reference the 380, not the 390.
So, my question is this -

If I follow the instructions precisely, will they work with a '390 and will GPS be available (for things like APRS) or do I have to so things slightly differently?

If so, what?

Any pointers much appreciated.

TIA

This question has been asked recently.

The OpenGD77 firmware does not have a separate GPS version. The firmware detects if the radio has a GPS.

Only the specific official 'donor' firmware can be used. This 'donor' firmware is effectively only to provide the codec. Technically the OpenGD77 replaces everything in the donor firmware apart from the codec.

Select OpenGD77 Com Port, unable to Install Satellite Keps.
I have updated Keps at least twice recently. Now GD77 Sez Select OpenGD77 Com Port but shows no port to select. I have tried connecting and turning on the radio in the sequence described in an answer to similar installation problem. I am running Windows 11. I see no "ports" in "device manager" on this machine. Radio is Retevis RT3S.
(This is my 1st interaction with these forums, please excuse any faux pas)
Thank you

Update
Device manager says COM4 is assigned to GD77, but hardware is not connected.

I believe you have put the radio in DFU mode. If you are not trying to update the firmware, do not put the radio in DFU mode. Just plug it in and turn it on, no turning on sequence.

BTW, Are your RT3S running OPENGD77 firmware?

Thanks for the quick response. I appreciate the help.
Yes, I'm running OpenGD77 on the RT3s. And the CPS software on the laptop.
I do not know how to get into or out of DFU mode. I've plugged in the radio to the laptop with and without CPS running, in about every order. ??

Are you sure you have the correct cable? Is this the cable you used to flashed OpenGD77 to the radio?
What is your firmware version? menu -> Firmware info.
What is your OpenGD77 CPS version? Letters on the top left corner of the CPS window.

Now is loads correctly! Go figure. Thanks for the help. I'm sure I will have more questions as I use this radio.
Cheers
