MD-UV380/RT-3S/DM-1701/RT-84 Test version 2025 03 23
Re: MD-UV380/RT-3S/DM-1701/RT-84 Test version 2025 03 23
Same problem me too on rt3s.EU1AEQ wrote: ↑Mon Mar 24, 2025 7:55 pmIf we're discussing the absence and disruption of DMR modulation when receiving an incoming QSO, the evening testing revealed the following:
1. Sporadic dropouts are present.
2. Testing was conducted on two radios—RT3S and MD-UV380—the first with an STM processor, the second with a TYT processor. No difference was observed. A third control station, Kydera DR360, was also used.
3. A duplex hotspot with an MMDVM HS HAT was used. This issue only occurs in duplex mode.
4. Currently, there are no full-fledged DMR repeaters available for testing—only simplex and duplex hotspots.
5. Firmware version 23.03.2025 (non-test) did not change anything, same as version 16.03.2025. Audio dropouts remain random and unpredictable.
Re: MD-UV380/RT-3S/DM-1701/RT-84 Test version 2025 03 23
I experience these dropouts on a MD-9600 (v5 TYT CPU) almost daily, yet erratic. Device is always on latest beta/test version.
The audio will suddenly go mute while the S-Meter is still showing the continued signal. The TRX is mostly operated @ 100mW via a *duplex* hotspot.
A click on "ESC" or a quick channel/QRG or TG change and immedate return to the previous one (or TS change/override via P4 key on a MD-9600) usually brings back the audio. A slight resync delay may apply. Another dropout may follow shortly thereafter - or it may take hours to appear again.
It seems that dropouts may happen due to a strong peak in modulation (within a transmission) or (more frequently) right after a handover.
As it may help with further investigations here's my configuration compared to stardard settings:
QUICK MENU:
- Filter: None
- DMR Filter: None
- TS Filter: Off
OPTIONS:
- Filter time: 45s or 60s
- Brightness: 20 %
- Night bright: 10 %
- Timeout: 10s
- Info: Both
- Timezone: +1
- UTC: No
- Last Talker: 2s
- DMR beep: both
- RX beep: Talker
- Talker: Both
- DMR Rx AGC: 0db
- Click Suppr.: On
Some of these changes are obviously not related to DMR and/or shouldn't have any impact on the observed issue - yet I am listing all of them for reference.

Click Suppression is only for MD-9600//RT-90 , but something similar would be nice for MD-2017/RT82 too as it has an annoying click when you use the keyboard.R9WAA wrote: ↑Sat Mar 29, 2025 9:16 amWhat kind of setup is this? Click suppr
This setting is only available on the MD-9600 | RT-90 and controls the Click Suppression function.
Some models of MD-9600 | RT-90 emit a loud click when the audio amplifier is turned on. To reduce this, the Click Suppression function can be enabled, however a quiet click can still be heard.
To completely remove the click requires a hardware modification to the radio by the user.
Re: MD-UV380/RT-3S/DM-1701/RT-84 Test version 2025 03 23
We have tried to implement click suppression on the MD2017 but nothing works, because the hardware design error is so bad it is not possible to even suppress the click by using tricks like PWM for the audio control signals
Re: MD-UV380/RT-3S/DM-1701/RT-84 Test version 2025 03 23
I also suspect that modulation breakdowns during reception are somehow related to the quality of the signal received from the network. Experimental confirmation is hard to obtain. The issues are particularly pronounced when listening to TG91. There are many correspondents there with heavily distorted signals.

Good morning, it happens to me too, only with duplex hotspot. I changed hotspot software, I went from pi-star to wpsd and it doesn't do it anymore.

Hello,
I think You should listen more. When I changed to wspd, the problems are still there. I have two different hotspots 2 slots, two different radios (rt3s and uv380), I changed pi-star to wspd, "no rx" or noise still occurs. Only change hotspot frequency to simplex or upload original radio firmware helps.
