No serial port created for cps to retevis RT3S

Post by NC3S » Fri May 16, 2025 5:07 pm

Hello,

This is my first post, so I hope the question is understandable.

My PC is running Windows 11 Pro.

I have a Retevis RT3S (gps) that I want to install opengd77 on.

Currently I have the Retevis supplied CPS working correctly with no issues.

When I try to use opengd77 CPS, no serial port is created in my Device Manager listing.

I have 5 other radio related ports that currently exist, for HF radios.

Opendg77 CPS wants me to select a port, but none exist for it. I'm not sure what is going on since the Retevis supplied CPS works as expected, it never asks for a port.

I'm don't know were to go from here.

BTW: the radio was in DFU mode (PTT + SK1)

Thanks,
Phil, NC3S

You can't read or write config to the radio with OpenGD77 CPS when the radio is running factory firmware, radio must have OpenGD77 running to appear as a COM port in device manager.

DFU mode is used for firmware updates and when radio is started in DFU mode (flashing red/green led) you should see the radio under
"Universal Serial Bus controllers"

How do upgrade the firmware without the opengd77 CPS?
How do I backup the original firmware?

The instructions that I read indicated the radio must be in DFU mode.

I must me looking in the wrong spot

Thanks

It is not possible to backup the original firmware in the radio. But you can backup the flash memory after installing OpenGD77

DFU stands for Device Firmware Upgrade, and the radio must be in this mode to update the firmware

You can only install OpenGD77 using the CPS on Windows, or using the Python script on Linux. ( I can't remember if the python script works on Windows)
