TYT UV-380 With Colour Screen Button Issue

Post by M1CDM » Sun May 18, 2025 9:35 am

I hope I haven’t missed something here as I’m pretty thorough at researching before troubling other people. Anyway, here goes. I’ve carried out OP-GD updates on several radios countless times without any troubles apart from “Beta / Test” versions where I expect issues etc. However, my trouble today is. I’ve been handed a TYT UV-380 with the colour screen. It had already been updated with OP-GD v12.12.2023 by a previous owner. I then noticed that the buttons weren’t configured to standard for OP-GD. I decided to upgrade the firmware to the latest test version (v23-03-2025). I’ve used this in my Baofeng 1701’s for evaluation with no side effects for me. After updating this TYT, I discovered the keys / buttons were indeed still wrong. The # key is now the Green Menu Key, Keys 5 & 8 is now up & down arrows, and button 9 is the Red key. I’ve looked intensively for a solution but drawn a blank regarding this. I decided to return the radio to its original TYT Firmware to check the key functionality, and it was perfect with all keys doing what they should. I did stumble across some information on here regarding previous button mapping issues with SK1 & various other issues between the 1701 & TYT but wasn’t sure if this is still a work in progress or just applies to certain radio characteristics being different in production etc. Is there a specific version of OP-GD for this model, or is just an anomaly with this unit. Just a pointer, when I try to read the calibration data on this TYT, it reads but doesn’t display on the PC screen. It just brings up the save file dialogue box. All my other radios display perfect. Sorry to waffle on but any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

What is the firmware file name you uploaded to the radio?

MD-UV380/RT-3S/DM-1701/RT-84 Test version 2025 03 23. I also tried the last stable version from September 2024. I also tried various other versions but didn't go back to the version from 2023.

The CPS can only Save or Load the calibration data, on radios which use the Stm32, it doesn't have the functionality to edit the calibration settings.

Also does the radio work correctly with the official firmware loaded.?

Also how old is this radio?

Hiya, As I've said in my first post. It works fine with original TYT firmware. I'm not sure how old the radio is but the version of the open GD firmware when I got it was from December 2023, so I suspect it's a few years old. The Serial # is: 1904A01229 Model: MD-UV380 5w

Did you use the OpenMDUV380.zip?

Loading the OpenMD1701.zip could be the issue, I have never tried loading the wrong image though.

Oh how did I miss that!!!! you may have just hit the nail on the head. I'm going off to try that now. I probably did load in the 1701.zip.
Thank you for your logic here. I'll be back with hopefully a good result.

Ha-Ha, I did indeed use the DM-1701.zip instead of the TYT MD380.zip. I can't believe I missed that after all these years. Can I say a big Thank You for pointing that obvious mistake out to me. All working fine now. I understand the slight key differences with SK1 & Green button for the quick menu etc. I can't stop laughing at myself now, but I do still enjoy learning.
