OpenGD77

Hi, I'm trying to follow step1 of the OpenGD-77 installation procedure and update the original firmware first (on my Radioddity GD77) to latest 4.3.9.sgl (from 3.02.01 installed) -before installing OpenGD-77. Pluging the cable on my win10 pc, putting the radio in DFU mode but when I try to hit "Download"for the update to begin "No Device found"error appears. The cable I use looks like this one: https://www.radioddity.com/products/pro ... -pCjqevg5A. (I'm not 100% sure if this is the correct cable as the previous owner of the radio -which by the way is in prestine/like new condition- could not confirm if this was in the package when the radio was bought or is from an other radio he had). Attached the photo of the cable I have. When the cable is pluged in to USB(even if the radio is not attached on the other side), in device manager I can see that it's there and appears as: Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM5) -COM5 is also the port I choose during the update process. So this is a USB cable clearly with a chip on it. Some fellow hams insisted that this is not the correct cable and that the right one is just a USB "fossil"without any chip on it. So MY QUESTION (at last ): Can any body please confirm which is the correct cable for updating the -original- (not OpenGD77) firmware? If the cable is not the problem then what should I double-check?? Any advice / help would be appreciated. Thanks and 73' de SV2TBR

There is no chip in the cable for GD-77 so your profilic cable is the wrong one.

The wiring is the same as for RT3S/MD-UV380/Anytone 868/878.

And you don't need to flash any original firmware before the OpenGD77, as it's a complete firmware written from scratch.

About the cable, as SA0BUX wrote, there is no chip inside. That means, if you plug the cable alone on a USB port, nothing will happen, no new device is added to the device manager.

Guys thank you so much!!! I did my own handmade programming cable based on the digramm you have provided and flashed the firmware directly to OpenGD77 as you also suggested. Problem solved, I''m so greatful..

Good, I've seen a lot of people all over the groups including Facebook having wrong cables.
