OK so I flashed TYT V5 Firmware. The radio is now dead on the desk but is still shows up as connected to the pc. I tried writing a codeplug using the tyt cps software and still get the error "THE MODEL IS WRONG!" when I try to write to the radio.

maybe the TYT CPS you are using is not the one for V5 model?

Yeah that would be worth a shot. If anyone could provide me with their V5 firmware backup file I'd be much obliged. Failing that I'm at a loss

I downloaded and tried flashing your firmware backup. but it fails after a few seconds saying.. "cannot erase" then the screen goes white.. . I appreciate the share. Thanks

Did you use the OpenGD77 CPS "Restore Flash" for the restore ?

The procedure going back to factory firmware from OpenGD77 is:
1. Restore the flash backup via OpenGD77 CPS when still running OpenGD77
2. Start radio in DFU mode and use the factory firmware updater to load factory firmware.

Ahh. No I didn't do that.. in fact I wasn't aware you could do that with Opengd77 cps. I'll give that a try when I get home. Thanks again for the help.

ok, The flash backup is only a backup of the 16 MB flash memory which is used for config/voice recording/contact database or other stuff that
the manufacture store.
So the task is to restore the memory structure to the layout that original firmware requires.

I understand now. I'm now wondering if that's been my problem all along . Ill try that when I get home and let you know my progress. Thanks for the help.

Ok so I tried using Flash restore in Opengd77 support menu. and then popped the radio into DFU mode and tried flahing factory firmware using TYT Bootupdate V3.07. The radio takes the flash ok but on powerup the screen is just white and none of the buttons are responsive. Im getting close to admitting defeat on this.

It could still be that you don't have the correct factory firmware, that's the the problem with the recent radios that have minor differences.
Does this radio have a TYT or STM MCU?

A special firmware version may be needed for radios with TYT mcu's.

I'm not sure that I want to test going back to factory on my new MD-9600 as I can't find the version that radio was installed with.
