No Audio output on DMR

Post by KS5KY » Sun Apr 06, 2025 3:47 pm

I recently noticed that I don't have any receive audio on DMR using the Open firmware, and I did beforewith my GD-77. I see the activity on the channel, green light comes on, and I can be heard when I transmit, just no audio back. I reverted back to the stock firmware and I get RX audio on DMR again. I'm curious if anyone has had this issue or knows of a fix because I hate the stock firmware as much as I love the Open firmware.

Have the same problem since I updated my firmware today (haven't updated for a long time before). I tried with stable and with beta firmware, but both won't work in DMR mode anymore.

Edit: I additionally noticed, that I don't even get any DMR related information, like ID, Callsign etc. on my display anymore.

You import the orginal firmware part 4.3.6 while compiling the opengd77 firmware
like the description told ?

Yes, it also shows [+DMR] on the Firmware loader page. I additionally noticed now, that I don't even get any sound anymore in the menus and there is no startup melody when I turn on the radio. RX sound from analog FM signals however works fine. Strange. Maybe I fried something on the board when I tried to install a GPS module to it. I'm afraid I will just have to buy a new radio...

Like I said in my original post, the original Radioddity firmware restores DMR audio, I just hate the simplicity of features and capabilities it has compared to opengd77 firmware. I was heard on DMR, so the radio transmits your audio, you just can't hear anyone responding. As you stated, analog works fine.
It also appears that the original way of updating the opengd77 firmware has changed. To that point, maybe when I tried to update my radio, I may have done some thing wrong or used an old firmware updater? Some of this is a little confusing and hard to figure out blindly without more information. Please advise if this correct or not.

I just installed OpenGD77 on a pair of MD-9600 radios I picked up cheap (v2.1 & v5.0) with no hitches and to my recollection, the process was no different from when I first came across this firmware a couple of years ago. I've installed it on numerous TYT & Baofeng radios for myself and friends and like you say, it's a little confusing for a first-timer. But each time, I try out the radio first and am absolutely shocked at how awful the stock firmware is on these things! I considered leaving one of the MD-9600 stock, but after a few hours of using it that plan got a big NOPE!! :D

Do you recall what DMR filtering settings you were using with OpenGD77? Whenever I experience this issue, I eventually realize I've inadvertently changed to the wrong filter. Do you experience the issue on repeaters, a hotspot or both? I'd ask if you're sure you're using the right donor firmware but I believe the CPS would tell you if you're not.

Sorry for the stupid question:
The firmware update was done with the latest CPS version ?
I ask for that we can exclude CPS as a possible problem.

Latest CPS here:

And second try: with a clean default config ?

Unfortunately, I don't recall any filtering settings. I will use the CPS link provided to give it another shot. It is very possible that the CPS I used was incorrect. I do believe I used the correct donor file, but I will confirm that as well
