OpenGD77

Using open gd77 with a baofeng DM-1701. Is is acceptable to rename codeplug with a specific area when saving and should I create new codeplug for a new area that I'll travel to or is there another method to do that.

What I have done in my code plug is enter all the repeater channels that I might regularly want, covering the entire country (NZ), and then put them into different zones that apply to the various parts of the country that I might visit. A channel can be in more than one zone, so I can put a channel in two or more zones if it might overlap a regional boundary or if the same repeater frequencies are used in multiple areas. Channels that I think I would be less likely to use, so aren't in my code plug, I can always enter into the VFOs from the keypad on an as required basis.

I also have some zones that only hold RX only channels and apply nationwide, such as Marine, UHF CB, rail network, etc., - this is mainly so I can use zone scan to easily monitor them. In addition to that I have a zone that includes Marine, my hot spot and a local VHF repeater that I use when at our holiday home to monitor things of interest and use to me there ie., a mixture of RX only and RX/TX channels.*

The firmware is very flexible when it comes to organising channels into zones, so I think needing to have more than one code plug for a single radio would be a very rare use case.

* - I have set "RX only" on all the non-amateur channels (the rail network ones don't even have a TX frequency entered), the code plug frequency limits are set to NZ VHF and UHF band limits and the radio is set to "CPS limits" - it would need two code plug mis-configurations, two deliberate changes to parameters in the radio or some combination of those to transmit where I shouldn't, so I'm not too worried about that possibility.
