DM-8 battery poor fit on GD-77

Post by k7xta » Fri Mar 21, 2025 11:11 pm

I understand the original GD-77 battery, the LB-75L has been discontinued. I ordered it's replacement, a DM-8. It slips into position on the GD-77, makes electrical contact, but the HT's latch won't click into place on the battery.

Has anyone else experienced this? If so did you find a way to correct the problem?

Thanks much,

The DM-8 battery is designed for the GA-510, and the two slots at the bottom of the DM-8 battery are narrower than on the original battery.
I've slightly enlarged the two slots with a cutter so that the battery will lock properly.

Thanks for telling us your fix! I suppose the slots on the battery are the only place that it can bind up so enlarging them makes sense. I took the old battery, flipped it front to back just so I could slip it's slots onto the radio's tabs and it slipped on and off easily. Not so much with the new one. After repeated cycles of slipping the new battery on and off the fit is improving. A small detail to be sure, but it's no bueno when the battery falls off in the middle of a qso.
