OK. New display arrived and fitted and still had an issue. Like a key of a keybd was stuck or a jammed button on a remote. OH WAIT!!! I recall seeing the power button disk slightly offset. FFS that was it.

I think the jarring of the vehicle has cause the flex to tear (or I was too rough with it)

Cleaned the contacts with a bit of Meths and reseated all the cable and we are back in business
EDIT: Not quite
Small cable is dodgy - if I move it the power to the display etc goes off

Hve you tried to disassemble the frontpanel itself and check the flatflex on that side ? (and/or the power lines of the button matrix) Yes to flat ribbon on both sides.
