In the Fox Hunt I am assuming you are using something like a 2 or 3 element yagi as your antenna. If so when the RSSI goes full scale you could add an inline attenuator, Say 6db or so. Well.. Depending on how insensitive, that might be just the ticket. If there is a directional-gain antenna attached, but the signal is S9+20dB with the preamp on, would the receiver still be getting enough signal through the antenna port to even get something in the range of S1 to S5? Two of the things I really like about OpenGD77 on my GD77 are the RSSI display and the fine-tune relative TX power setting, because these are both useful for foxhunting.
