OpenGD77

New guy here. I just got my tech ticket not too long ago but I'm a long time electrical engineer. I hope to retire soon and have some time to enjoy the hobby. I have acquired a few analog HTs but am looking for a DMR unit now. I stumbled across the OpenGD77 project and I'm interested! The question is, which is the best DMR radio to buy that is compatible with OpenGD77? I was looking at the RT-3S on Amazon but thought I'd ask the question here; Is there one radio model over the other that is superior for this modification? Thanks!

The only radios that are still being manufactured are the RT-3S (TYT MD-380UV), and Baofeng DM-1701
Build quality on the Baofeng isn't as good, but possibly the RF performance may be better.
