GD77, no ComPort
GD77, no ComPort
Hi,
I have written the wrong firmware to the GD77.
The display does not light up and the comport is no longer present in the Windows device manager.
Therefore the codeplug or the firmware can neither be read nor written.
When I press Sidekey 1, Sidekey 2 and PTT when switching on, the green LED does not light up or flash.
I have removed the battery. Pressed SK1, SK2 and PTT and then inserted the battery, then the green LED lights up.
However, there is no ComPort in the device manager.
What can I do?

Re: GD77, no ComPort
COM PORT is not used for firmware updates in any supported radios
Firmware update device on the GD77 type radios is USB HID
Firmware update device on the UV380/MD9600/DM1701 etc is via the STM DFU device driver
Note.
On the GD77 to enter firmware update mode you use SK1 + SK2 (Not including PTT)
However....
If you flashed some completely wrong file to the GD77 there is a chance that you overwrote some critical parts of the internal ROM, and there may be no way to recover except open the radio and reflash the CPU / MCU using a hardware debugger / erase device e.g. JLink
i.e If the radio won't enter the bootload or will not accept any new firmware, then you have overwritten critical information by loading the wrong file

Re: GD77, no ComPort
Hi Roger,
Thank you for your reply.
I have now been able to activate the device.
I have loaded Radioddity software V3.1.9 and firmware V4.3.9 into the device.
However, not everything is displayed as with a new device (which is not flashed).
When I have started OpenGD77, I still do not see a comport in the W11 device manager.
Is this necessary for OpenGD77?
How can I use JLINK?
Are there alternatives to JLINK?
I know how to use a soldering iron and PC (for programming).

Re: GD77, no ComPort
Hallo Reinhard,
You should be fine if you put your radio in DFU mode now and just re-flash OpenGD77.
Windows 11 is a bit weird with the drivers for DFU mode. Re-Install OpenGD77CPS and leave the checkmark to install the serial driver selected, then reboot your PC after trying to flash again.
Still, if that does not help, connect your radio to your PC in DFU-mode, go to the device manager, maybe it shows you the COM port with the yellow warning sign. Remove that device, including the option to uninstall drivers. Disconnect radio, reboot PC, Re-Install OpenGD77 CPS as above (with the drivers), connect radio and try again.
Or try instructions here: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2573&hilit=windows+11

Re: GD77, no ComPort
But GD77 (MK22 MCU radios) does not use the DFU interface , it's only STM32 based radios that use DFU drivers.EA7KLK wrote: ↑Mon Jan 15, 2024 2:33 pmHallo Reinhard,

I don't understand your post
You seem to say you installed different versions of the official firmware
Did you then install OpenGD77?
You did not say how you are loading the firmware
The official firmware can only be loaded with the official loader
OpenGD77 can only be loaded using the OpenGD77 CPS

Hallo Volker,
Thank you for your reply.
I was able to write the Radioddity software V3.1.9 and firmware V4.3.9 into the GD77.
OpenGD77 firmware cannot be written to the device. An error message appears on the LCD, see screenshot.

Re: GD77, no ComPort
hi Roger,
I have downloaded and installed GD-77 firmware V4.3.3 & software V3.1.9 from https://de.radioddity.com/pages/radiodd ... 0b67620c54.
The LCD shows under Radio Info version V4.03.03, DSP version HRC6000 V1.2.
I removed the battery, pressed and held SK1 + SK2, then inserted the battery and switched on the GD77 and
OpenGD77 CPS (R2023.11.26.02) is installed on the PC.
When I start the firmware loader (zip-file) an error message appears.

Re: GD77, no ComPort
Hello Reinhard,
Are you using the OpenGD77 firmware from downloads/releases/MK22/R20231231/firmware/?
Also, do NOT unzip the file with the OpenGD77 firmware.
You also need the donor file from https://radioddity.s3.amazonaws.com/202 ... ersion.zip.
That one you do need to unzip and use the file GD-77_V4.3.6.sgl as donor firmware.

Hello Volker,
I do not use the OpenGD77 firmware from downloads/releases/MK22/R20231231/firmware.
As already written, I cannot install an OpenGD77 firmware with OpenGD77 R2023.11.26.02.
