Name is Tom. Not new to amateur radio (did mostly vhf/uhf weak signal, and a touch of 10m), but there was a 20 year gap in operating. Covid 19 brought me, like so MANY others, back to the shack. Since 01 Feb '24 I have set up a hotspot and purchased an MD-UV380. Spent a few days on the stock firmware and a local codeplug to wrap my head around the basics of DMR. I decided that the firmware was clunky, but was extremely nervous about flashing something new. <BANG!> It was literally the easiest flash that I have ever done on any piece of hardware; there were no errors, and it was over so quick that I figured that something had gotten screwed up. Nope. Now I'm analyzing the original code plug and slowly building a new one for opengd77. It's like having a new radio with extra functions, and I was surprised how easy the satellite mode worked (and that it worked at all)!
Mostly a listener on my metro talkgroup.
