[BUG] Power issues with DM-1701 at 5W?
[BUG] Power issues with DM-1701 at 5W?
hello, currently I have in my hands a DM-1701 from a friend, and I have installed OpenGD77 on it (the current BETA 2025 03 16)
but I've noticed a strange behavior with power settings, for example in a UHF test repeater in 470 mhz, if I put the radio in 5W the radio TX never reach the repeater, but if I put the radio in 4W, 3W or 2W it reach the repeater without troubles.
currently I don't have a power meter but I've tested in my SDR in a random simplex frequency, let's say for example 471 in simplex, and if I put the radio in 5W the power in the spectrum looks is a bit low, but if I put 4W, 3W o 2W the power in the spectrum looks normal.
so I'm wondering maybe is a OpenGD77 issue? because with the factory stock firmware, the power is ok when is in High mode.
NOTE 1: in VHF it works normally, the issue is only in UHF mode.
NOTE 2: testing with a blank opengd77 codeplug or even resetting the settings does not make any difference.

Re: Power issues with DM-1701 at 5W?
Could it be, that your friend messed up something in the "Radio Callibration" Section of the options? As far as I understood, you are able to finetune each power level separately there.
Re: Power issues with DM-1701 at 5W?
no, he haven't touched it, this is a new factory radio, so it means that maybe calibration data is corrupted from factory? :S
can somebody share a stock calibration file for DM-1701? in order to compare values in the official CPS.
Re: Power issues with DM-1701 at 5W?
btw, this are the original calibration values from the radio, and the power values seems to be ok

and...
the values for 1W in opengd77 match the same values as in the original calibration data for low power
but...
the values for 2W in opengd77 are high and does not match the values in the original calibration for mid power
the values for 5W in opengd77 are higher and does not match with the values in the original calibration for high power
also the values in 5W in opengd77 for 460mhz, 470mhz and 480mhz are completely low.

so, seems OpenGD77 is not getting/calculating/applying the proper values for 5W in 460Mhz, 470Mhz and 480Mhz.

Re: [BUG] Power issues with DM-1701 at 5W?
btw, after few more research with another older DM-1701 (that does not present this bug), it have a CPU: STM
while in the model that have this bug, it have a CPU: TYT

Re: [BUG] Power issues with DM-1701 at 5W?
I experienced a similar problem with my dm-1701 where I could not activate an FM repeater when using 5w, but could active using lower lower levels.
However the problem was not repeatable, i.e when I checked the power output using a power metre it was correct, and I was also able to activate the repeater.
My initial suspicion was that perhaps the output becomes distorted when using 5w, but as the problem was not repeatable, I could not do further test to try to understand why the problem happened at all
BTW. IMO this problem won't be related to the CPU type, and is more likely to be related to power setting and battery voltage

Re: [BUG] Power issues with DM-1701 at 5W?
well, something is causing OpenGD77 to not correctly take the high power values from the original calibration and transfer them to the 5W calibration in OpenGD77 (especially at 460Mhz, 470Mhz, and 480Mhz as in the images above).
Re: [BUG] Power issues with DM-1701 at 5W?
The strange problem I noticed, is Not the same as your problem.
My power values are OK.
Re: [BUG] Power issues with DM-1701 at 5W?
well, no idea why OpenGD77 have put other strange power values in this radio for 5W calibration.
but, now I've ported manually all the power values for "high power" from the original calibration one by one, to the OpenGD77 calibration options for 5W and finally solved the issue, the radio is working fine now in 5W and can reach the repeater without issues.
