DCS audio cuts out

Post by ac1bc » Sat Aug 15, 2020 12:43 am

I've got a channel that is RX only on 483.1625M for the fire department in my city. If I set DCS023, the audio cuts in and out for some transmissions. The audio is solid on my other radios. I've tried both 12.5 and 25kHz. And, if I disable DCS, the audio is solid. How often are you checking for DCS after the squelch is opened? What more can I do to get you info about this? Happy to do a capture from a rtlsdr or if there's some debug to turn on.

Riku, It looks like the problem with your pull request was that you also had some translation changes in there as well, and that translation change includes a merge error. If you separate out your squelch fix and send a new pull request I imagine it could be accepted.

I've wondered if it makes sense or not to use the noise / squelch test in addition to the DCS / CTCSS test, or if it would be safe to use only DCS / CTCSS when one of those is enabled. I've been meaning to give that a try but haven't got around to it yet.

Ah yes, that sounds like my issue and the video matches what I'm seeing. Thanks.

I have the same problem with a new Baofeng DM-5R Plus with firmware OpenRD5R (built Jul 31 2020) when listening to a signal with CTCSS and excessive deviation. Several other radios tolerate excessive deviation without problems.

I reworked Riku's patch and submitted it again as https://github.com/rogerclarkmelbourne/ ... 7/pull/727
There are builds for GD-77 and DM1801 if people want to see if it helps (based on the development branch). If it does help alleviate this problem, please comment on GitHub if you can, or here if you can't use GitHub.

As discussed on github, this problem is under investigation, and I am not accepting updates which will effect operators who do not have problems with CTCSS and squelch and over deviated signals.

There is a new version which should fix this problem:

Re: New ongoing "Development" version has been created

I compared versions Jul 31 2020 and the new one (Aug 30 2020) on Baofeng DM-5R Plus. The new version tolerates overdeviation better than the old one, but there are still some cuts when receiving such a signal. The signal had a CTCSS tone.

thanks for the fix, however:
We tested on new radios, same thing it is slighty better but breaking up still when just use other opengd77 radio and say "AAAA" there, its not hardware issue.

I think you'll need to discuss this with Colin and Andy. The change is their PR.
