Sorry for the late Chime in, but I've been seeing the same behavior on my radio. This is by no means a complaint as I think what you and your collaborators are doing with the GD77 is absolutely amazing. Just more of an FYI that Mike is not alone. :)

Ok.

I will need t write a debug version which prints what data the DMR chip sends, via USB serial

SQ7SPE also has reported the same issue. I think because it only happens under certain conditions it is hard to track down but I have been really work hard to eliminate possibilites however so far have not found any external (to the firmware) causes.

Guys.

I've found and fixed one bug with the TG display, but I think its necessarily going to fix things for you.

Try this version

It is possible output debug messages via USB, but of course when you plugin the USB cable you loose all audio etc

John G4TSN made a splitter cable from a USB cable and 2 audio splitter cables (a 2.5mm and 3.5mm splitter), so that he can use USB at the same time as operate the radio.

When I get time I intended to make something like that, possibly even by just buying some 2.5mm and 3.5mm stereo extension cables and cutting off the socket end, and soldering the wires etc

That sounds like a good idea, wonder if he has pinout of that
I guess you could also just use two radios on at the same time to listen to one and have the debugger running on the other?

I'll try to dig out the pinout.
