APRS SSID

Post by SA0BUX » Wed Aug 09, 2023 7:41 pm

Hi

Is the SSID in APRS profiles working ?

I created a profile suitable for the 144.800 APRS we have in Europe and a channel for this where I specified the created profile.

But I'm always getting -7 even with other SSID values.

The "icons" ! and # seems to work as I get different images in aprs.fi

Just tested on my GD77 and SSID 6 was ok, via APRS.fi

I will test on the RT3S and md9600 but the codebase should be the same

I had AFSK1200 Decoder so I tested some more on the RT3S and tried changing SSID and other parameters

Seems that the CPS is also related, if I select TX SSID=1 and reopen the Windows it's replaced with TX SSID=8
but it's not consistent and I also see that it can send something else on the channel.
I'm not 100% on that the decoder is correct on -1 to -7 but it seems be a problem in the CPS for 10 to 15 , maybe it strips first figure and select 1 instead ?

1 -> CPS 8 -> -7 on RX
2 -> CPS 2 -> -1 on RX
3 -> CPS 3 -> -2 on RX
4 -> CPS 4 -> -3 on RX
5 -> CPS 5 -> -4 on RX
6 -> CPS 6 -> -5 on RX
7 -> CPS 7 -> -6 on RX
8 -> CPS 8 -> -7 on RX
9 -> CPS 8 -> -7 on RX
10 -> CPS 8 -> -7 on RX
11 -> CPS 8 -> -7 on RX
12 -> CPS 8 -> -7 on RX
13 -> CPS 8 -> -7 on RX
14 -> CPS 8 -> -7 on RX
15 -> CPS 8 -> -7 on RX

Yes.

I just noticed this

Its becuase I didnt think SSID of 0 was allowed, but now i checked, I can see it is allowed

So the indexing is incorrect by 1

I'm trying to fix this now

PS

Yes. Its a bug in the CPS not the firmware

Cool

BTW. Thanks for your codeplug.

I have found one problem in the firmware if the codplug has old "Emergency System" data attached to the APRS config for a channel. In this case the radio will not transmit any APRS at all.

I need to fix this, so under those conditions it sends the default data

I'm also thinking that perhaps the default SSID should be 0 not 7, i.e no SSID, but I'm not sure of the best default value

Also, I'm not sure of the best destination or Via data

Destination: APRS seems to be depricated
Possibly the default via should be WIDE2-2 not WIDE2-1

Possibly the Tx callsign should be sent as uppercase like the WIDE2 and perhaps entering wide2 lower case should not be allowed, or should be automatically converted to upper case

Probably also, non alphabet characters are should not be allowed for the destination an vias etc, but are OK for the comment
