calibration

Post by g1euq » Tue Jun 30, 2020 12:16 pm

i think i may have posted this in the wrong section as had no replies and this is a cps problem
i have tried with the latest fw and cps but no joy

calibration
Post by g1euq » 08 Jun 2020 20:51

hi, have just downloaded the very latest firmware and cps everything seems to work ok
apart from when i go into extras, calibration, read from radio or load a file i get
unhandled exception has occurred in your application
value of "1040" is not valid for "value","value" should be between
"minimum" and "maximum"
Parameter name: value
any ideas of the cause ??
cps v20200608
fw v june 03 2020 [ 0690263]
the previous cps version does read and write calibration ok but has no voice prompt ability

Umm.

Sounds like the reference oscillator value for you radio is out of range in the calibration data.
Some checks were put into the CPS a while ago to prevent people setting data beyond the maximum value

What radio are you using.

Is it transmitting on the correct frequency ?
Values that are beyond the end of the usable range would wrap around and cause the Tx/Rx freq to be much lower than it should be.

Thanks for the reply Roger, my problem is now resolved, you were correct about the ref oscillator setting, on UHF mine was set to 1040 and that was out of range for the new CPS as it now has a max of 1023, I've now reduced to 1023 and all is good, just got to update the backup files so everything is on the same page !!
Keep up the fantastic work 😊😊

Further on it seems I had the UHF ref oscillator setting at 1040 to bring the operating freq exact, I will do some checking to see if my theory is correct as 1023 the freq is reading slightly low, 433.500 is down to 433.498/499, not a major problem but I'll play and see what happens with the unchecked version

Thats strange

Do you men prior to lowering the value that the frequency was higher i.e 433.500 Mhz What accuracy and resolution is your counter, because internally the code has never handled values > 1023 as the DMR chip that controls the reference frequency is in theory incapable of handling those values.
However, potentially the data sheet we have for the DMR chip is incorrect.

Hi Roger,, my freq counter is only a cheap one, resolution up to 3decimal points but checking my other stock Kenwood and icon radios it's reading the correct output, setting the gd77 to 1040 got close to the desired freq so I tried going up in increments of 10 to 1100 and no improvement, so after about 10 minutes playing around I went back to 1023 and to my surprise it is spot on !!!, My only conclusion is that the oscillator had warmed up by tx ing and settled itself down, up till now I've been trying on a cold radio and didn't give temperature a second thought ! I will check it further, cold and hot just to verify but I'm sure I've found the problem (finger trouble and old age) !!!!!!
Sorry for giving you a headache and I promise to concentrate more and do better next time !!!!!!!

OK.

My counter is only accurate to 1kHz, so most of the time I just use an SDR dongle, to compare the Tx freq of my various radios, and see the frequency shift when I change the reference oscillator value
