Latest WIN10 update version 2014

Post by K1KJR » Wed Jan 27, 2021 11:06 am

So my pc updated to the latest, I guess, version of WIN10. Now the OPENGD77 CPS can’t connect so I’m guessing windows “fixed” the driver. I can do my usual bull in the China closet approach or ask.

What’s the recommended way to fix the driver? Uninstall gd77 reinstall? Reinstall the stock gd77 CPS?

Thx

Try reinstalling the CPS, It will try to install the driver again, but you may need to manually uninstall the driver first

BTW.
I am not sure if you know of the version of Windows 10 , called the Enterprise LTSB ( Long term support branch).

Microsoft supply this to mission critical environments, like hospitals government, military etc, and it does not do automatic updates to remove drivers etc etc

I is totally stripped down and doesn't even have the App Store ( but it can be added afterwards)

Although in theory this version is not available to regular users it is possible to find it if you do some careful searching.

I've just retested on my standard Windows 10 Pro version, which has all the latest updates that Windows wants to apply, and everything still works fine for me.

I don't know what "version 2014" is.

The OS Build number my machine is showing is 19042.746 version 20H2

Thanks I'll try that. Apparently I'm running some HOME version.

OK.

Windows 10 is a pain, because by default it updates without asking for permission.

FYI.

If you set you network connection. e.g. the WiFi as "metered", it has to ask before downloading and installing updates.

Not sure how you're running the Bat file

The Bat file and the generic driver installer exe are here

https://github.com/rogerclarkmelbourne/ ... CommDriver

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/roger ... driver.bat
https://github.com/rogerclarkmelbourne/ ... simple.exe

The bat runs the generic serial port driver and sets the device ID of the radio.

The official firmware doesn't use its own drivers, it masquerades as some sort of generic human interface device, and uses a generic Windows driver that Windows always includes

Sorry, to be more specific, when I check device manager, the cable/radio is listed as "Unknown USB device (Device Descriptor Request Failed)".

I downloaded the files you provided to the same folder then ran the exe file. It opens the command prompt, which displays:

Extracting driver files...
Success
Installing driver(s)...

It stays on this line then closes after about 45 seconds. After reboot the device manager still reads the same.
Just to confirm, prior to the Windows update, this worked fine.

After the Windows update you now get what look like low level USB connectivity errors.

Did you try the radio + cable on another computer.

Sounds like that Windows update did something nasty to the USB on your machine.

All I can say, is that it does work with Windows 10.

I can't comment on individual versions of Windows 10 on different machines.
However, the majority of people using the CPS and firmware are now using Windows 10 without any problems.

I'd suggest you try a completely different PC.
