What version of Windows are you running. i.e Windows 7 Home, Or Pro or Ultimate, and what language e.g. English ?

Ummm

No one else running W7 Pro has at issue.

I'd try uninstalling it, then re-installing the CPS, which also installs the driver.

You could also check your antivirus in case its blocking the driver installation

BTW.
What is your callsign ??

I am having same issue with installation in Windows 7 pro. Using latest version of OpenGD77 (8.18.20). Comes up as MCU Virtual Com Demo when radio plugged in, but no com port is available. Trying to install in GD77S. Is there a driver file that I can download and select to install other than the automatic one from OpenGD77 program? Thanks Joe N2OAD

You can download these 2 files

https://github.com/rogerclarkmelbourne/ ... simple.exe

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/roger ... driver.bat

Then run the bat file

Hi,
I have similar issue - COM port is not displaying for me in Device Manager (Win7x64)
CPS is otherwise reading CP fine.
But I can't make any backups.

Same issue has been outlined here (I think): http://opengd77.com/viewtopic.php?t=92
Needless to say, that my GD77 still has the official firmware, not OpenGD77.

This part in the Installation section of README.MD suggests that backup is only possible from OpenGD77 firmware, e.g. first install firmware and then take backup:
Installation of the firmware is undertaken at the owners own risk, but the official firmware can usually be reloaded onto the radio if the user has problems with the firmware, as long as the operator takes a full backup of their radio using the OpenGD77 CPS immediately after the firmware has been installed
Is it somehow possible to make a full backup before flashing anything, to have a vanilla point of origin, to be able to revert to factory default?

Thanks,
O.
No you can't. The official firmware use USB HID communication for everything, and the OpenGD77 use USB HID for firmware flashing, and Serial Comm for CPS/Extra access.

So, you need to install the OpenGD77 serial driver, and flash the OpenGD77 firmware to be able to make a backup of everything (except the firmware itself, but that's not crucial since you can flash it back).

Cheers.
