Great news!

I'll stop watching that website...
Thank you so much, the only thing I do not like about the RD-5R is the memory. I'm looking into changing the memory chip.

FYI
The RD5R is not an easy radio to dissassemble and reassemble.

Parts of it are glued together, with what appears to be hot glue, and everything is generally very tighly squeezed into the case, as it has to fit most of the electronics of a GD77 onto a PCB etc thats about 50% the size of other radios

OH, so maybe not a good idea. Thank you for the head up.

Does OpenGD77 automatically download digital id contacts to my DM-5R?

I did not manually do it, but I notice many QSOs show the actual callsign on my screen.

Although some have the last letter missing.

You need to connect the radio with the USB cable to the CPS to update the callsign database.

But it could be information sent via Talker Alias (TA) from the other stations that you see.

Thanks: I'll research Talker Alias...

I've come across this video of replacing the LCD screen on the DM-5R and wondering if the memory chip is on the out side of the board? if so, then it is manageable. Or if in in the interlayer of the board and need to be disassemble further to get to?

BTW: do we have a tutorial anywhere in this forum about replicating the memory chip? I've read about backing up the calibration, flash memory, and restore them after the replacement, but not so sure if there is anything more than that I have to worry about if I decided to do the mod?

Wow: So much work. Why? To load more callsign digital id's?

Yep, I do not use Brandmeister much, spend most of the time on NEDECN. The radio can not show callsign because it doesn't have enough memory. Just the 31xxxxx alone is already larger than the memory can hold.
