"NEW" MD-9600 version ???

Post by AA3RP » Mon Jul 08, 2024 4:00 am

A fellow amatuer radio friend asked me about my MD-9600 setup I have in the car. One of the questions was how much would it cost. So I went online and took a look around. The supplier I have used most in getting my MD-9600 is showing them out of stock, so I searched around and I noticed the following,

TYT MD-9600 PLUS GPS AES 256

As a listing for the MD-9600 from several vendors. This is the first time I have seen or heard of a 'Plus' version with AES 256.

I am curious if anyone knows more about this, and if it is able to use the OpenGD77 firmware or not?

Thanks in advance

Thank you for the first hand report.

Good to know that the OpenGD firmware continues to work with the current production models.

I would be curious in a follow up report once you have used it for awhile. Hopefully there will be nothing new to report.

All the best and enjoy the radio

That's the exact radio I also purchased and received about 2 weeks ago. Mine did come with GPS installed. I actually bought it from the same seller listed in the link above.

Questions for those of you who have the new model:

- Is the volume control still hair-trigger on DMR, going from nothing to suddenly medium loud, and then too loud in a couple of degrees?
- Does the radio emit the annoying pops and clicks (which the click suppression and simple capacitor hardware mod were designed to fix)?

V5 radio delivered 2 weeks ago

Volume control on my radio is smooth. Definitely not like my 878UVii. Works great on analogue and digital.

I do kinda get pops If I have the radio scanning all channels (mix of analogue and digital) and just listening to a DMR talk group in general, when people key up I hear the "pop" if that's what you mean. For me it's not a deal breaker but it's there. The click sup option in the menus helped immensely.

The pops only occur with DMR traffic.

Hi was hoping someone can help, I have MD-9600 {M1-V4A} GPS 2205 on the main board, would this be AES compatible? I can program AES keys over to the radio and it comes up with the encryption logo in the radio but it's not encrypting the audio, so I am either doing something wrong or the radio is not compatible?

Hardware version = 02.09
MCU = S026.045

Thank you

This forum is dedicated to the OpenGD77 firmware which does not support any form of encryption becuase its totally illegal for Ham radio use.

The OpenGD77 firmware will never include encryption because even to add it to the firmware would be a legal nightmare for the developers.

So you won't find the answer to that question here.

Quick question, Does your volume UP on the radio function correctly? Mine acts like the band/esc button. I have the latest OpenGD77 FW.
