That’s correct, the MD9600 or RT90 does not support 220 MHz, so it is not possible to enter that frequency into the VFO.

Hi Colin,

but why then allow it to accept other frequencies which are outside of the amateur bands. It's not only 220Mhz frequencies which don't allow the last digit to be entered ? You can enter most other frequencies into the VFO and they is accepted at least for receive and just say out of band if you try to transmit. However it doesn't seem logical. I can enter 178.00000 into a VFO no problem but not for example 178.10000 where it won't let me enter the last digit. or I can enter 380.00000 but not 370.00000, again last digit cannot be entered I don't understand the logic about which frequencies can and cannot be entered I'm afraid.

When the firmware was being developed for the GD77 the maximum frequency ranges for the hardware were found by experimenting. These limits were then set in the firmware so that only frequencies that stood a chance of working would be accepted. There is however no guarantee that the full range of frequencies will actually work on all radios.

The limits were set to:-
VHF Band 127 MHz to 178 MHz
220 Band 190 MHz to 282 MHz
UHF Band 380 MHz to 564 MHz

So that the same codeplug can be used in both radio types the same VHF and UHF limits are currently used for the MD9600 firmware. The 220 MHz band was removed because the hardware does not support it.

A codeplug built for a GD77 with 220 MHZ channels can still be used on a MD9600 but the 220MHz channels will be shown as 'Out of Band'.

Hi Colin,

thank you for the explanation, that makes sense what confused me is the fact that it is just the last digit which you can't enter when you try to enter one of these mid band frequencies (Frequency greater than 178 but less than 380) . Rather than some sort of error being reported.

Thanks again.

The last digit is actually being entered, it is then checked, the frequency found to be invalid, an error beep is sounded and the last digit is removed. The same thing happens if you enter just a few digits and try to enter them with the Green (A/B) key. The frequency is checked and if invalid an error beep is generated and nothing happens. You then have the option of editing the frequency using the left and right (B C) keys or cancelling with the Red (A) Key.

everywhere i looked is out of stock on md9600. but i just received a version 5 hardware md9600 from http://buytwowayradios.com. followed the install instructions and now functional running opengd software. i talked with them on phone said they have a few in stock so if you where looking for an md9600......

so with version 5.0 hardware and

i have not tried the hotspot mode yet. anyone confirm/deny it works?

i have not found the key to change "E" to "W" for input lat/long? mic arrows change the N/S.

voice prompts nicole2.5 goes way way too fast. thats the latest version but is it the right one?

i'm replacing my 878 with this in the mobile, so much easier to use, faster scan, thanks to all the opengd crew you rock!!!

Hi,

About the voice speed, the number reflects the tempo (not a versionning information), so you can pick any slower one.

About NSEW, it's documeted

Ok I see speed not version.

Also now I understand the press and hold mic for sk2. Thanks.

It wil take a little to get used to but still so much easier than 878/578.

I noticed on scan that it pauses on dmr channels longer than it used to. I put new version on gd77 it does this longer delay on dmr also. Earlier version scan went thru dmr as fast as analog? It's still heaps faster scan than any other radio i have just noticeable delay on dmr channels?

Thanks again for the amazing work y'all do.
