New new MD-9600 and RT-90 is not currently compatible
New new MD-9600 and RT-90 is not currently compatible
TYT, who make both the MD-9600 and the RT-90, seem to have changed their CPU supplier and are now using unbranded chinese made CPU chips in their radios, which are not compatible with the firmware
We have now received reports of MD-9600 / RT-90 using the unbranded CPU chips and hence these radios are also not compatible with the firmware.
I checked and the STM32F405 CPU does seem to have supply problems e.g.
https://au.mouser.com/c/?q=stm32f405VGT
Which don't seem to be forecast to be resolved until the end of the year
So I would not recommend anyone buy a new MD-9600 or RT-90 unless the vendor can guarantee that the radio has a genuine STM32F405VGT CPU in it.

My V5 has a STM32F407VETb chip. Is this compatible?

Yes.
The clone chips are unmarked. At the moment we have not heard of any in MD9600 radios.

Re: New new MD-9600 and RT-90 is not currently compatible
Do we have some report that MD-9600/RT90 have delivered radios with the clone chip?
I see it more like a warning that it can be affected similar to MD-UV380/MD-UV390 /RT3S
BTW, the subject "IMPORTANT. New new MD-600 and RT-90 may no longer be compatible" should be:

Re: New new MD-9600 and RT-90 is not currently compatible
Thanks.
Colin and I thought that eventually TYT would use the non,-genuine CPU chip, because of extreme shortage of the genuine chip

Re: New new MD-9600 and RT-90 is not currently compatible
Yes. That is strange.
It points to TYT outsourcing the PCB assembly to multiple companies, some of which still have old stocks of the PCB which they are fitting with the non-genuine MCU/CPU
Ideally anyone who receives a MD-9600 / RT-90 and was able to install the firmware, should open the radio to check whether the CPU is genuine or unmarked / fake
There are multiple types of fake STM32F4 in circulation and even some semi-authorised clones e.g. GD32F407, so potentially some fakes may work with the firmware, but as the fake is unmarked, its impossible to know what it is, or why it doesn't work.
