Microphone backlight

Post by oe6mfg » Mon Mar 06, 2023 5:46 pm

Good evening! I'm not sure if this topic has been discussed here before. I have a basic question about the TYT MD9600 or Retevis RT90. I noticed that with a V2 device, when the device is switched off, the microphone button backlight also lights up when the device is switched off (with power button). I had not noticed this with a new V4, V5 device MD9600. Is there any experience with that? Thank you and best regards ... Gerhard, OE6MFG

Yes, the early radios all had this problem.
It is a design fault and can't be fixed with firmware.

The front panel backlight is powered directly from the processors 3.3V supply. This stays on whenever the radio is connected to a power supply.

It can be fixed by adding a power switch IC to the front panel. But it is a fiddly mod to do. If you look at some early radios you will see the factory mod covered with a white blob.

Thanks Collin, I figured something like that. Then I'll know, I probably won't modify anything there. All the best and thank you for your efforts! Greetings ... Gerhard, OE6MFG
