OpenGD77

Good morning,
I have a question - can I install OpenMD9600 without opening radio? For example: first time I install OpenMD9600 from "MD9600_firmware_V1HW.bin" file, then I do flash backup, and if this version will not work, can I install "MD9600_firmware_V1HW.bin" (if this file is wrong for my radio I will test another, and another) and am I supposed to do another flash backup? I'm asking because I'm not sure about communication between radio and PC, when has radio installed wrong version of OpenMD9600.

If you load the wrong version of the firmware the menus and the CPS communication will still work OK but the radio will not transmit or receive. You can safely try several versions if you are not sure which version radio you have.

You only need to do the flash backup once.

I found that the hardware version is displayed at the original (TYT) CPS at the Details screen after reading the CP...
My 2. MD-9600 is showing HW V1 at this screen and the PCB is marked as v2.1. Loaded the openGD77 file for V1 and it worked at first try!

The displayed HW version is not always accurate because the manufacturers made changes to the radio without updating the version number.

it’s me again. I already installed OpenGD77 on MD9600. Because I haven’t installed antenna yet, I set radio on 100mW and I started broadcasting for a less than second. On my second radio I saw that there is some signal, but I’m not sure about it, then I started broadcasting from second radio and MD9600 received signal. So my question is if version of OpenGD77 was not for my board, will radio show some kind of announcement?

The wrong firmware will not receive or transmit. So if you are receiving signals then all is OK.
