MD-9600 Analog FM Audio reports of overdriven/fuzzy

Post by KD2YFY » Mon Aug 21, 2023 10:28 am

On the MD-9600 running OpenGD DMR audio has good reports of audio coming back.

Over on Analog FM side. I've gotten quite a few reports recently of the mic sounding fuzzy and overdriven. I turn the mic gain down from 0db to anything lower, then it sounds too quiet.

Anyone else been having this issue? I bought a replacement mic thinking that was it, but a friend has the same exact issue on his radio running OpenGD

It sounds better on FM if you hold the mic further away, so maybe that's it? It's the same place I hold my other mics, but that doesn't mean anything!

Curious to see if anyone else has had this issue, or if a fix could be found?

Thanks for all the hard work on this software, it's awesome to have a base radio have the same codeplug and software as HTs!

I'm currently running 8.18 release, about to update to the new 8.21 release. I've also seen this on older betas when I tested it, like Feb's release.

I had to reduce my DMR gain to -3/-6 dB but on FM I have 0 dB and have never received a bad report.

Could it be that you use FM (wide) on repeaters/remote stations that use FMN (narrow) ?
