Hardware versions question

Post by ZL2FL » Fri Sep 08, 2023 3:16 am

I've just received a new MD-9600, the dealer told me that it was the latest version. Turns out when I read the radio with the standard CPS it's hardware version 2.09 MCU version S026.057 and last programmed 2011!

Am I going to trip over anything with this older hardware or should I send it back to the dealer and try and find newer hardware version?

Hi,

Open the top cover to read the version printed on the PCB.
Information displayed in the CPS is pretty useless.

Cheers.

Hi Daniel,

Well that may be my first problem, there is no version number on the board at all. Unless they've moved it underneath in which case I'm going to have to dismantle the radio

The serial number starts 2303AXXXXX, Any chance that's a reference to a March 2023 build I wonder?

Hi Colin,

Well, Colin knows everything about the MD9600. He will probably replies later.
Could you post some pictures of the PCB ?

Cheers.

Both serial and the PCB marking 2311 indicates that it is produced in 2023 , so it should be the latest model that use HW5 firmware.
And the PA transistor is marked 226AA-G which also could be that it was produced in 2022 something.

My old TYT MD-9600 has a serial 1809E01687 and is marked MD9600-UV-V2.1-170608 and 1913 on the PCB and works fine with HW2 firmware.
( PA is RD70HVF1 191AF-G )

As far as I can see, it looks like similar to my V5.

Cheers.

It's strange they now removed the model number e.g MD9600-UV V4A in my radios

Sounds like good news on the hardware front then - thanks for all the feedback guys. I'll go ahead and load V5 and let you know how it goes.

If you load the wrong version, all that happens is that it won't receive or transmit, because the big difference between each model is that they kept changing the PLL chip, and in later versions they also changed the IF chip.

So if you load a version and it won't receive, try another version until it does receive
