HELP! Stuck on Settings Updated screen

Post by ZL4BKE » Tue Feb 13, 2024 6:00 am

Hi everyone
Today my MD9600 turned itself on but it wouldn't respond to most buttons/knobs.
Once I got home I fiddled with a few things and now it powers on straight away (without pressing and buttons)
can get it into boot mode and I have flashed various versions including the latest all with no change i.e. still stuck at Settings Updated. Turning the channel knob makes it beep. Nothing else works.
I can write and read codeplugs

Any ideas or is my Radio a brick?

Ah.
Well, remove the top cover and reseat the frontpanel's flat flex.

About the power, since you can't turn it off using the power button, the OFF state couldn't be stored.

Hve you tried to disassemble the frontpanel itself and check the flatflex on that side ? (and/or the power lines of the button matrix)

Yes to flat ribbon on both sides. No to disassemble the panel and power lines to button matrix. I couldn't make out how to disassmble it further than taking the back off.

BTW - Thanks for your input

You need to
- remove the two covers,
- disconnect the flatflex on the radio PCB.
- remove the frontpanel fixature screws (hidden by the covers)

Once removed, you have 4 screws on the back of the frontpanel.

I have reseated the white cable and the copper coloured one.

Should I be trying to go deeper?

OK

THANKS HEAPS to F1RMB

Cleaned the contacts with a bit of Meths and reseated all the cable and we are back in business

EDIT: Not quite

Small cable is dodgy - if I move it the power to the display etc goes off
