I've uploaded my latest experimental roaming firmware for the MD9600 to here

https://opengd77.com/downloads/MD9600/F ... al/Roaming

Note. You need to use the latest CPS

downloads/PC_CPS/Latest/OpenGD77CPSInst ... .23.01.exe

And you need to go to each channel which has Lat/Lon and tick the new checkbox "Location is valid" to confirm that the value is to be used.

i.e The "Use location" checkbox now means Use when sorting / roaming....

I'll probably need to rename things, after this is all working corectly
Thank you so much, Roger. Great work!!!
No worries

BTW. I tested the display distance updateing while driving, it works in this version.

If you get time, can you install this version and let me know whether you notice any problems, but it should be better than the version I emailed to you

I have to ask, when do you sleep, have updated my RT90s and modified the codeplug partialy to carry out some field tests over the next couple of days, will report back it works out, early indications from Charlie KA1CM are very promising.
Many thanks for all your efforts Roger and the team.

Having been out and about last night, I have to report that the uploaded firmware and latest CPS, did not work even though I went through all the settings and reset them as was prior to the update, one thing I did try was to select the GPS from ON to NMEA, at that point the distance updating while driving started working, one other thing I noticed because I was out in the dark and had the auto night setting selected, the Minnium brightness setting would not go any higher than 10%.
Having now been through all the settings on the radio and revalidated them all I will be going out for another drive around using the NMEA setting of the GPS, as well as trying the ON setting of the GPS.
Also this time I will deactivate the APRS.
Will report back later.

NMEA is GPS: On, plus it send the NMEA sentences to the serial port.
The GPS needs time to get a fix (and sometimes it could be looooonng).

I've the latest firmware Roger posted in this thread on my MD-9600 last night. This morning it work fine. I did not notice any difference than the one he send me through e-mail, but I'm sure there is a bunch of things working more efficiently in the background.

I will have to drive around for my work today, will report back in the evening.

About the night/min brightness, there are dependend.

"Min brightness" couldn't be higher/equal than "Nite brightness".

Nite brightness is for the Night daytime theme (not the Dim state, the one similar to "Brightness" in Day daytime theme).
Min brightness is for the backlight Dim state (Night & Day).

Cheers.

I’ve driven a lot today, and take the opportunity to setup the backlight to manual, always on. This way I can have a glance at the radio more often. I can see the distance change constantly, almost 5 to six times a minute. When I’m closer to the next repeater, it switches. And I can confirm the distance of the last repeater is more than the next one. Sometimes it is as small as a fraction of a kilometer, sometimes a few kilometers.

Thank you so much for your great work!!!!

The reason that the nearest repeater Distance to the current repeater is checked every 1 second, and updated if it changes i.e by more than 0.1km

This is currently how its designed to work, because it only changes repeaters when you have changed position by more than 5km from the last time it changed repeaters.

Driving at 70mph with a 5km setting, it would re-sort the zone roughly every two and a half minutes

The reason I don't constantly sort the list e.g. every second

1. This would be quite a load on the CPU and could potentially cause breakup in the DMR Rx
2. If you happened to be driving on road that when purpendicular between 2 or more repeaters, there is a chance it would constantly switch back and forth between 2 repeaters which were at almost the same distance from you, (in different directions)

One thing I could do is change the distance options so that the first option is 1km. This would result in checking the repeaters, roughly every 30 seconds.

Of course people in Germany on the unrestricted roads, driving at 140mph etc, the radio would be checking every 15 seconds, so those guys should probably select 5km

... And probably not be operaing a radio at that sort of speed ;-)
