Priority channels?

Post by IU1KCQ » Mon Aug 21, 2023 5:29 pm

With the TYT MD-UV390 CPS for the stock firmware it is possible to set two priority channels for each scanlist,
but I'm not able to find out how to set at least one channel in a zone as prioritary with the OpenGD77 CPS...

This function is not currently supported.

The main reason for this, is that these radios only have one physical receiver chip ( it's actually a $1 Transceiver chip called a AT1846S)
So the hardware can't physically check a priority channel without stopping listening on the current frequency, changing to the priority frequency, listen there for a few hundred milliseconds before going back to the original frequency

For DMR it takes around half a second to fully lock onto a signal, so changing freqs is highly disruptive to listing to a signal

It takes around 25mS for the PLL to lock, and the S/N detector and RSSI dectors take at least 25mS to have valid data.

So even on FM there would be an annoying tick every few seconds when the radio frequency hops

So all in all, this would not work very well even if we did implement it, as the hardware is not good enough.

We do however plan to support the MD2017 in the distant future and this does have 2 transceivers

Thank you for the detailed explanation.
I thought of something like the Uniden's Priority DND (Do Not Disturb) mode, but effectively it's
useful only when monitoring hundreds channels, not in an HT with limited memory scan capabilities.

Very interesting. Keep up the good work.
