UV-390 Plus GPS 10W Screen Backlight Not Working
UV-390 Plus GPS 10W Screen Backlight Not Working
I flashed my 390 Plus GPS with the OpenGD77 firmware, but after flashing, the screen displays without the backlight turning on.
Under sunlight, it's possible to see that the screen is displaying normally and can be operated as usual; it's just that the backlight is not working.
I confirmed there were no issues with the display settings, and reflashing didn't solve the problem.
Later, I imported the CPS codeplug data from my previous 380 into the 390 Plus, and it behaved strangely:
The backlight doesn't turn on when the device is powered on, but it lights up after pressing the PTT button once and then stays on continuously,
even though I've set a time for it to turn off. Now, I don't know what to do.
Below are the versions of some files I used
Device driver: stm-device-in-dfu-mode-1595237
CPS:OpenGD77CPSInstaller_R2024.03.30.01
Open firmware : MD9600-CSV(2571V5)-V26.45.bin
Official firmware:OpenMDUV380_10W_PLUS.zipdownloads/MDUV380_DM1701/Firmware/69bd7 ... b33838715/
Could someone please help me identify the problem? I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you.

Re: UV-390 Plus GPS 10W Screen Backlight Not Working
HI,
Are you really sure that's a UV380 Plus 10W ?
Hmmm, maybe you have one of the model that doesn't requires inverted pins, try to flash the normal firmware for the MD-UV380 and tell us.
Also, with any of the firmware, using the CPS, post a backup of your secure register (see menu Extras -> OpenGD77 Support).
Cheers.

Re: UV-390 Plus GPS 10W Screen Backlight Not Working
Hi Daniel
I'm certain it's the UV390 Plus 10W model.
My friend and I each bought one. After flashing the firmware, his device works fine.
In the photo, my problematic device is on the left, and under the same brightness settings, it's obviously brighter than the normal device on the right.
I'll try flashing the normal firmware for the UV380 and get back to you later. Thank you.

I've reflashed the device with the normal UV380 firmware, and now the screen displays normally and can automatically turn off.
However, it's unable to adjust to 10W transmission.
Compared to a normal device, the brightness is still too high, as shown in the picture.
The backup files have been uploaded to the attachment. I hope this helps and look forward to an early resolution of this issue.
Thank you very much.

Re: UV-390 Plus GPS 10W Screen Backlight Not Working
Hi,
You can still get more power, as the one displayed is a faction of the full power, valid for 5W radio, so for yours, they're 50mW, 250mw, 500mW, 750mW, 1W, 2W, 5W, 8W, 10W
Bear in mind that 10W is pure marketing BS.
Cheers.

From your secure register, it's part of the rare UV-3x0 10W Plus that doesn't requires a specific version (Backlight/PA pin aren't swapped).BI1SIV wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 2:34 pmF1RMB wrote: ↑Tue Apr 09, 2024 1:28 pmHI,

Re: UV-390 Plus GPS 10W Screen Backlight Not Working
BTW, I found the backlight of the transceiver on the right quite dim for 100%, or it's currently in the 80% dim state.

HI Daniel,
I understand now. My 10W version might have only minor modifications from the 5W version, which is why it doesn't require special firmware.
Regarding the power settings, from my understanding, the various power options are actually scaled-down proportions of the full power.
For example, the 5W setting in the normal 380 firmware represents full power, so selecting 5W on my device actually exceeds 5W.
Fortunately, my friend has equipment to roughly test the power output. We tested both the special firmware for the 390 Plus and the normal 380 firmware, and the output was between 6.5W and 7W, which is significantly different from the advertised power. Just as you mentioned, it's entirely marketing.
About the firmware, if a maximum power option could be added to the normal 380 firmware, it seems it could perfectly accommodate this type of 3x0 10W version.
Thank you again for your guidance, and I send my best wishes.

Re: UV-390 Plus GPS 10W Screen Backlight Not Working
Hi !
The new revisions have a different display. And it has a backlight half as low as on the old revisions. There's no way to fix it.

Re: UV-390 Plus GPS 10W Screen Backlight Not Working
Hello, so the 10W is a marketing trick? So then I don't have to download the 10w OPENGD77, that is, I can just flash the UV 380 or 5w 390? Please advise. This has really concerned me.
Best,
Gregory

Hardware is different on the 10W version.
Use the version for the 10W Plus radio
