As Sep 2024 the new batch of MD-UV390 Plus GPS 10 W with a brighter display.
It is a hardware change, not a firmware update.

...
Thanks.

Any idea about what changed. Perhaps a resistor in the circuit which supplies the backlight voltage to the LCD, or perhaps simply a better batch of LCD panels.

Replace two resistors on the display board.
I will take a picture and post it later or tomorrow.

OK.

So basically they screwed up the hardware some of the 10W radios ?.... But have fixed the problem in the latest batch ?

Finally the solution, I'm curious to see where/how to intervene, thanks!

Where would you suggest to order the updated model with the new resistor?

Are those 2 resistors part of the same signal, i.e either in series or parallell

If its 2 resistors in parallel, to increase the power handling (wattage) of the resisistor, then the simplest solution would be to solder a normal / non-SMD resistor across the existing resistors

The glue the new resistor onto the PCB using hot glue or anything else that will hold it in place.

Yes, but then it must be understood if they are in series or parallel, also what value must result, what does 82R mean in the image? Sorry if it is not clear to me.

Is there a serial number/FCC ID way to determine if the radio would be affected by this?

I have a MD-UV390 10W Plus GPS and it runs OpenGD77 just fine with max brightness as bright as original firmware.

I'm suspecting they mix and matched front/LCD panels at the factory & assembled the radios with whatever parts they had at time of manufacture, otherwise all 10W versions would be affected no?
