Hello everybody!
Finally!
New GPS antenna installed. Excellent results!
28db antenna, installed on top of the radio.
When activating the gps, in one minute the gps starts to receive the satellites.
Amazing, I wasn't expecting it. Indoors, he obtained 9 satellites. (And with the exact location of my house)
It took a lot of work but I'm happy with the result.
73s everyone

That sounds great! Could you please post the part number or link of the antenna? I definitely wanna try it out :)

Thank you, 73!
It's amazing. I want to alert friends that the antenna is active. This dear RT3S uses a passive gps antenna. But no problem, to make the work easier, I advise you to remove the pcb components and then connect the small coax directly to the (positive) of the antenna and of course not forgetting the ground.

Good Luck

90€... It should be able to deliver Milked Hot Coffer too... :D

AliExpress has the same antennas

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005004218247122.html

I have used them and they work OK.

For anyone who wants to fit a GPS inside their radio

These modules are very small and should fit in the RT3S and GD77 etc

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32764345698.html
(The option called "GP-02" NOT "GP-02 Kit")

I have some of these and they are compatable with the firmware

These also work with the firmware

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005001704030454.html

But they are too large to fit inside any radio except the MD9600, because the have a battery and this makes the module too thick

The GPS I fitted has a button cell, it took half a day to charge it up in the radio but now it keeps time overnight when powered off... At first it used to loose the time after an hour or so, until I left it powered up all day to allow the GPS to charge itself. Now satellite acquire is a lot faster (still needs a good view of the sky but its a lot faster) ...

I love this firmware! It has transformed my UV380 into a little monster and I am working satellite finally!

Roger, please, can you show me how do you connect the GP-02 module in the radio? (connection scheme)

Many thanks,

If you have a non-GPS RT3S/UV380 I presume there will an empty set of pads on the front display PCB, where the official GPS module is located

The official module is usual a JumpStar device, but I do not have the pinout.

You will need to determine which pad is the Gnd, Power (3.3V), data and the antenna connection.

If the official GPS is not fitted, then the antenna will also not be fitted, so either you will need to fit an antenna in the same location on the PCB as the official antenna, or fit an antenna elsewhere

Finally i was found the pinout to connect the GP-02 to the RT3S. Mine have the gps module fitted (Jumpstar) but i'm planning to remove it and fit the GP-02 with a better antenna.

No need to replace the Jumpstart, I doubt the GP02 is a better Rx.
Just replace the antenna

Hello again.
I connected in another GPS module and there is a huge improvement.
Original module after 30 minutes power on near window:

And the module purchased here: https://aliexpress.com/item/1005001704030454.html

It appears that some Jumpstart modules have very poor sensitivity.

Previous modifications that did not improve anything I described here: viewtopic.php?p=25744#p25744
