So, I followed the video from page 1 and installed OpenGD77 on my Brandnew Retevis RT 3S. I then made the first entree for the code plug (using Parrot) and what do you know, it worked. The only thing that didn't work for me was to Backup Flash. I let it sit there for good 30 minutes and the bar had almost reached the end but it somehow stopped and did not finish the process. But I think I can live without it..... :)

Hello,
my Question is:
Give it a Open GD77 Version to flash for under Linux, for the RT3S?
For MD380 UV or DM1701 give it this on the first Posting under DM1701 Stable Release.
Thanks!

I don't understand your question

Are you asking how to Flash the firmware onto the UV380/DM1701 using Linux ?

You can flash the firmware under Linux, for STM32 devices, you will find the Python tool, here downloads/releases/MDUV380_DM1701/R2023 ... and_tools/.
About the CPS, you have no other choice than running it in Windows (in a VM, like VirtualBox).

I thought VMWare has to be abandonned due to recent "changes".

Takea look at either my MD2017 installation video or my much older UV380 installation video

The process is the same on both radios apart from the button sequence to enter the bootloader / DFU mode on the radio
