ALPHA version - Known problems
Re: ALPHA version - Known problems
Hello.
1. It is noticed that when entering the channel name from the radio station buttons, button 2 is incorrectly programmed. Successive clicks cause the characters a-b-c-2-?, there are no capital letters and the characters do not move in a circle.
2. And also, I would like to know about the approximate plans for using the GPS module. Is there any plan to transfer coordinates in any way? For example, in aprs.fi or in a direct communication channel to another radio station? Many friends are interested in this question.

1. There are capital letters when I tested it on my radio.EU1AEQ wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 5:43 amHello.

The only problem I see is that the text entry flashing underline is in the wrong location
2. AFIK the radio can't send FM APRS. It may be possible to send GPS coords via TA, but this would only get written if one of the developers wants that feature themselves.
No one gets any money for the thousands of hours of development time required to write this firmware, so features only get written if a developer wants that feature themselves.

Me and another amateur radio operator like this in the video.

Re: ALPHA version - Known problems
Looks like, for PMR frequencies this does not matter, if there are capital letters or notEU1AEQ wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 6:17 amMy friend and I have it like this in the video.

As designed, for licensed Amateur Radio use (the manual says so), the software performs quite well

You can check with yourself on the correct amateur radio channel.OE1MWW wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 6:51 amLooks like, for PMR frequencies this does not matter, if there are capital letters or notEU1AEQ wrote: ↑Thu Oct 20, 2022 6:17 amMy friend and I have it like this in the video.

Re: ALPHA version - Known problems
I can confirm that there is an error with Button 2 Alpha characters on this radio. Repeatedly pressing 2 gives abc2??? instead of abc2ABC.
I will have a look and try to find the cause.

Re: ALPHA version - Known problems
We have now found the cause for this problem.
Roger is currently working on the key assignments. Once this is complete it should also fix this issue.

Re: ALPHA version - Known problems
Thanks
The reason I could not reproduce the problem, is that in my local version, I've accidently fixed it already.
However, I'm still working on other changes to remap the Up/Down keys to work correctly, and this will take more time before everything is working, especially the complex functionality of the VFO
Re: ALPHA version - Known problems
The rotary knob has a position in which it does not register a "key press" or sometimes registers the incorrect "key press".
This issue is present on Stock FW, OpenUV380, and OpenRTX alike. I think this is a physical issue which probably cannot be fixed in firmware, but I'd better post it anyway just in case.
At least 3 people I have spoken to also report their UV380 does the same thing. I don't necessarily think this is a fault, just a poorly implemented design decision, considering the numerics from 1 to 16 stamped on the top of the radio around the dial, with a notch of unstampped area before the 1.
