Hello again.
I connected in another GPS module and there is a huge improvement.
Original module after 30 minutes power on near window:

And the module purchased here: https://aliexpress.com/item/1005001704030454.html

It appears that some Jumpstart modules have very poor sensitivity.
Connection:

Previous modifications that did not improve anything I described here: viewtopic.php?p=25744#p25744
Hi Friend
I don't know how you managed that...
In my opinion you could remove the original module and do as shown in the tutorial, I think it will be easier
Just suggestion/idea

Hello CU7AAZ.
I saw your tutorial. From there I got the link to the module on Aliexpress. My additional module worked without connecting the rxd and 1pps lines, so they are probably unnecessary. I don't want to make such a big mechanical alteration inside to fit it. These modules look pin 2 pin compatible. I'll try to solder out the original one and solder this one in its place, or I'll buy a GP-02 and solder it.
Currently, I do not have a suitable soldering iron to solder out the original module, so it will have to wait a while.

FYI
RxD and PPS are not used by the firmware

Here is my two GPS equipped RT3S at my office (top floor and lots of glass in roof), the left one is newer and has the TYT CPU instead of STM.
I'm very pleased with the improved GPS reception, I have no idea what they have changed.
( I waited around one hour before I took the photo but the radio at right was still acquiring )

Probably a different GPS module. The "JumpStar" module in the older radios does not work well.

Can confirm, exact same situation like Lars SA0BUX has shown.
Thanks Lars for the hint.

My 'new' Retevis, using an TYT CPU, is way faster than the 'old one' using the STM CPU.

The difference is not the CPU, its the GPS.

Perhaps someone will open their new radio to see what GPS is in the new radios.

It would also be interesting to know which GPS is in the new UV390 "Plus" . Probably it also uses the new GPS and there the "Plus" probably relates to chanegs in the official firmware and not the hardware.

BTW. I found what was wrong with the GPS log saving, and the fix will be in the next release, which will probably be a Beta release

sure, it's the different GPS unit !
CPU mentioned to differentiate the GPS performance between my 'new' and 'old' RT3S

Coldstart under moving conditions is still tricky, for that the radio needs a backup feed to the GPS.

Tried my Anytone 878UV+ from office today, just as bad as the older RT3S.
