UV380/UV390 BAD AUDIO. GPS conflict??

Post by EA3BIL » Wed Jan 31, 2024 4:57 pm

I have found a really strange situation...
Bad audio decoding on a specific situation.

When GPS position is NOT YET acquired, audio is perfectly clear and properly decided.
Once GPS potion in acquired, audio is quite distorted.
Same distorted audio happens when manually setting location.

See the distorted audio at this video:
http://youtu.be/7HUGb24-Hmg

So, it looks like some kind of timing conflict with APRS.

Why not upload yo YouTube but set to Unlisted.

The video is then available but does not appear in searches

My other question is

Does the channel with the audio have APRS enabled?

I noticed last week that there is a bug with PTT APRS mode, and possibly also Manual APRS mode becuase the mic is not disabled when transmitting

I think I need to change the code so that when a channel is set as APRS, even then the mic should be disabled.

There could however me some confusion if an APRS config is set to for a channel but APRS is not enabled, even in Manual mode

So probably the "APRS" text should only be shown for a Channel (or VFO), if the Channel (or VFO), has an APRS config and also APRS is enabled.

Otherwise the channel should operate as a normal channel.

i.e the "APRS" indication text in the header row, should probably show that APRS is active on this Channel and not that the Channel has an APRS config assigned.

You are showing reception NOT on an OpenGD77 radio

So the other radio which you do not show in the video is transmitting from a OpenGD77 transceiver ?????

What is the exact configuation of the radio that is transmitting ??

I've asked EA8CQT to explain the full environment in here.

Let's wait for his answer to the full environment details.

good morning. First of all, thank Rafa, EA3BIL for opening this thread. Thanks Rafa!
The radio I am using for these tests in TX is a TYT UV390. with opengd firmware and in Rx a TYT md380G. with md380Tools firmware, since it does not support opengd.
Also comment that when the firmware is reset the problem disappears.
The configuration I use for APRS is the one that comes by default in the firmware except that I have set the beacons to 1 minute.
As a complement to the information, I have to note that it does not happen when used in Hotspot... the reports to channel echo 9990 are done with perfect modulation.
