OpenGD77 and Retevis RT3S speaker/sound issue

Post by VK1VLV » Fri Apr 12, 2024 5:50 am

I swapped the original Retevis RT3S firmware for the OpenGD77 firmware and for some reason there is no sound coming from the speaker. Receiving appears to be working (based on the green indicator and signal bar strength when a signal is incoming) after transmitting a test on TG9990 Parrot and other apparent incoming signals on TG505 AU Call.

The only thing I did different to the installation instructions (see below) was to select MD-UV380 / RT-3S firmware loader from the extras menu as the instructions option MD9600 / MD-UV380 (on page viewtopic.php?t=2380) was/is not one of the available choices. See the attached screenshot.

Any assistance with this issue gratefully appreciated. Given the only available choices, should I have chosen the MD-9600 / RT-90 option?

On page viewtopic.php?t=2380 the procedure I followed was basically as follows:

• Download the Retevis RT3S update drive … this should work with the TYT MD-UV380.
• Follow the links to the firmware for the UV380 and the UV380 CPS
• Use the official CPS to backup the calibration data in the radio
• Back up the codeplug using the official CPS
• Download and install the latest OpenGD77CPS (I.e. OpenGD77CPSInstaller_R2024.03.30.01.exe)
• Download the official MD9600 V5 firmware as the donor (I.e. MD9600-CSV(2571V5)-V26.45.bin)
• Put the radio into firmware upload mode
  • Turn radio off.
Connect your radio to the computer via the programming cable.
Holding the button SK1 (button on side nearest the top of the radio) and the PTT button
    Turn the radio on.
The LED on the top of the radio should now flash Red / Green.
• In the OpenGD77CPS, set the radio type to MD9600 / MD-UV380
In the OpenGD77CPS, select the MD9600 / MD-UV380 firmware loader from the Extras menu.
• On the firmware loader screen , select the radio type as MD-UV-380
• If you have not already selected the MD9600 ‘donor’ firmware, Press the “Select official firmware (donor) file” button and select the file you
extracted from the MD9600 firmware package. MD9600-CSV(2571V5)-V26.45.bin
• Now press “Select Open firmware file & update”, select the OpenUV380 firmware, and the firmware installation process should start.

This all went well and appeared to be working fine, but there is no output (i.e. sound) on the speaker.

Hi,
You're referring to a two years old post. Of course things changed meanwhile.
Obviously the matching transceiver type has to be selected.

Cheers.

For your audio problem, check your channel configuration (like CC, current TS, etc).
