Re: Localistion support (foreign languages)
This has already been discussed on GitHub, and its not possible because the radio does not contain a chinese language font.
The font used is a custom 8 bit font, and the firmware does not support unicode characters at all.
The Japanese version is a completely different build, and there is a completely separate Japanese font developed by a Japanese ham.
And Japanese only has a small number of characters so it was possible to make a custom 8 bit font for Japanese
Re: Localistion support (foreign languages)
Thanks a lot. Could you send me the Japanese version url? I will try to find someone to do it. Anyway, Thanks a lot.73VK3KYY wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 9:49 amThis has already been discussed on GitHub, and its not possible because the radio does not contain a chinese language font.

Re: Localistion support (foreign languages)
Its not that simple.
Did you count the number of unique characters in your text?
I think its less than 256 but if its not, then it wont be possible.
As well as a special font you also need to change the font data creation script/tool
You need to discuss this with F1RMB, as he handles the font system

Rgr. I may contact the engineer who from Baofeng, try to resolve the issue .VK3KYY wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 10:09 amIts not that simple.

Re: Localistion support (foreign languages)
Hi,
About the Japanese support, it uses katakana syllabary, which has 64 symbols.
Is there any Chinese equivalent ?
Also, for foreign language, the number if usable glyphs are less than 256, as it's around 126 since ASCII table is needed, in any case.
Cheers.

I don't think Baofeng will even reply to something related to the OpenGD77 firmware.BG8KJC wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 10:15 amRgr. I may contact the engineer who from Baofeng, try to resolve the issue .VK3KYY wrote: ↑Mon Jan 18, 2021 10:09 amIts not that simple.

Re: Localistion support (foreign languages)
I don't know if I'm 100% correct, but I tried to calculate the total number of characters in that text, and excluding ASCII and punctuation, it looks like there are approximately 450 unique chinese characters in that text.
So it would not be possible to create a font that could handle this, as the firmware does not handle unicode characters (double byte)
I don't think Chinese language characters could ever be supported, because it would require all text handling to change to unicode, and this would be a huge amount of work, and also considerably increase the code size, and we don't have a lot of code space remaining in the MCU ROM.
