How many glyphs the Chinese Simplified is using. I checked the Wikipedia page, but it's not really clear, going from 132 up to thousands.BG6UD wrote: ↑Sun Sep 19, 2021 1:05 pmCode: Select all

Re: Localistion support (foreign languages)
Nǐ hǎo!
I'm not an expert in Chinese, but here is what I think about the subject... The spoken language has only limited amount of syllables. However, the written language has thousands of symbols. For example "Unicode currently has 74605 CJK characters" (CJK = Chinese, Japanese, and Korean). To be able to read a newspaper you have to know 2000..3000 characters.
I'd like to hear comments from Chinese users about using Pinyin? It a transcription of Chinese in Latin characters. Even the Chinese themselves use it to show how to pronounce Chinese characters. Nǐ hǎo is an example of Pinyin - note the accent marks which indicate tone.

Re: Localistion support (foreign languages)
The font is only 8 bit, as is the whole text handling, so unless the Chinese version can work within these limitations it won't be possibe to support it in this firmware.oh1fss wrote: ↑Mon Sep 20, 2021 7:32 amNǐ hǎo!

We definitely don't have space in the ROM to large numbers of font characters , in fact the ROM was 100% full before the last changes I made to the CPS and firmware, to release a few more kilobytes by compressing some of the AMBE codec static data etc.
Re: Localistion support (foreign languages)
Hi,
On top of this, we can't remove the Latin characters A-Za-z0-9, plus several unavoidable others.
Japanese has Katakana, which fits, but we never got firm answer about Chinese.
Cheers.

Hungarian Re: Localistion support (foreign languages)
Hi!
I am happy to use the English menu.
But maybe there are those who can benefit from the Hungarian language.
Following the example of catala.zip, I translated it into Hungarian.
Please accept for use.
If something is wrong, long, bad character, I will be happy to correct it.
If there is anything I can do to use it, please let me know!
I'm trying.
Best regards!
Zsolt

Hi,
Yes, you have to keep it updated, or fix the small glitches.
We already have some abandoned languages, hence, sooner or later, we will simply drop them.
Cheers.

Re: Localistion support (foreign languages)
I will look at the languages this weekend , and any languages which have not been maintained will be removed
The radio has very limited memory, we are now at 99% capacity and don't have space for lots of unmaintained languages which are mostly now English text as new texts are always added to all languages in English
