TYT MD-UV380 / Retevis RT3S Alpha verison is now available

Post by VK3KYY » Sat Sep 17, 2022 12:54 am

Thanks to a huge amont of work by Colin G4ML, we now have a version of firmware for the TYT MD-380 / Retevis RT-3S

See viewtopic.php?f=19&t=2380&p=19678#p19678 for installation details

Thanks also to Daniel F1RMB and also the testers.

The firmware supports both FM and DMR, but does not currently have all the feature in the GD77 version.

Specifically Eco modes and any form power saving is currently not implemented.
Suspend mode is not impemented because the radio has a hardware realtime clock, which is used for date and time, hence Suspend mode is redundant.
GPS does not seem to be working, at least on my RT-3S. We are investigating the GPS.

Q. Is the MD-380 / RT-3 supported
A. No only the dual band MD-UV380 / RT-3.
The MD-380 has completely different hardware to the UV380, and uses an older DMR chip (C5000), which is not compatible with the firmware source code.
The MD-9600 / RT-90 and all other supported radios use the C6000 DMR chip

Q. Is the MD-2017 supported
A. No. Although this radio does have very similar hardware to the UV380, it would be expensive for the developers to work on this radio, because the cost of these radios is 50% more than the UV380 / RT-3S.
The manufacturers do not supply samples of their radios, the developers have to spend their own hard earned money to buy 2 or 3 of each radio type.
