What will happen if I flash DM5R's g77 file to GD77

Post by BD4SWD » Fri Dec 11, 2020 9:01 am

Hello,
I have a DM-5R and a GD-77, both flashed opengd77 firmware. I use the OpenGD77 CPS writed DM-5R's g77 file to GD-77 by accident. I'd like to know what will happen to my GD-77. And I forgot to backup the flash/eeprom of GD-77. Sorry for my bad English. Thanks!

And I try to use https://github.com/rogerclarkmelbourne/ ... kups/GD-77 backup files to restore my GD-77, I can flash the "flash_lower_64k.bin" and "flash.bin" files to GD-77, but with the "eeprom.bin" file ,I got wrong file size error.

Hi,
.g77 files are codeplug, so there is no harm (and all OpenGD variations are using the same codeplug format).
Flashing wrong .bin file is another story. Why have you done that ?
So, make a backup of both handhelds, that could help... sometimes.

Hi Daniel, thank you for your reply. I wrote the codeplug of DM-5R to GD-77, so far I didn't find any harm as you said. But when I flashed back the stock firmware, I found that the modal of GD-77 in information becomes to DM-5R.
And I have another question: I don't know if the g77 file contains the calibration information. I'd like to know if I messed up.

The g77 format is a bit different from the original one (80 channels per zone, etc). So, if you're back to original firmware, and if you don't have a backup of the codeplug before the "upgrade", you probably need to start a new codeplug from scratch (using the original CPS, not the OpenGD77-CPS).

Calibration data aren't part of the codeplug.

Cheers.

Thank you, Daniel! I don’t know why the codeplug file changes the model information. I wonder if I got another codeplug from someone's GD-77 or MD-760, I can rewrite it back .

OK, I found that the g77 file contains model information and SN No. I am trying to modify it.

I have successfully modified the model information and SN No. In fact, you can modify it to whatever you want.
