Talks Alias Scramble

Post by vk2fmet » Sun Sep 13, 2020 3:20 am

I've recently tried combinations of TA Tx On/Off and Order DB/Ct/TA etc.
And I am testing with another operator on GD-77 (Sept Firmware)
I keep getting scrambled talkers alias coming thru e.g. from live logs

Code: Select all

M: 2020-09-13 02:08:30.518 DMR Talker Alias (Data Format 1, Received 6/12 char): 'VE3WWM'

M: 2020-09-13 02:14:21.231 DMR Slot 2, Embedded Talker Alias Header
M: 2020-09-13 02:14:21.231 0000: 04 00 5E 52 61 64 69 6F 64 *..^Radiod*
M: 2020-09-13 02:14:23.393 DMR Talker Alias (Data Format 1, Received 12/15 char): 'Radiod Wayne'
M: 2020-09-13 02:14:23.393 DMR Slot 2, Embedded Talker Alias Block 3
Where the Line 1/Line 2 of Boot Item - Radioditty [and] GD-77 are getting displayed and mangled in with the caller station callsign and Radio ID

Sometimes the caller is Radioiditty GD-77 on line 1 and RadioID on line 2
with 1 line option set it's random scrambling.

Mostly appears on Brandmeister network which is obviously transmitting TA anyway..

TA Tx should generally only be used on Simplex.

Don't use it on DMR MARC at all, because Motorola systems don't support it, and they can't even handle the packet type, and you'll end up with very broken audio

BM, already inserts you callsign into the first block of TA data, and BM can also insert additional text into the subsequent 3 TA data blocks depending on what text you've type into your APRS data section in the BM SelfCare page.

I've tried to investigate what BM does if you send your own TA, and sometimes it seems to try to merge its TA with you TA, but the results seem to intermittent.

Unfortunately BM is a closed source system, so I don't know what it does under the hood, so you'd need to contact BM about this.
